Using our senses

We quickly finished off our last topic and swiftly moved onto our new one! Going Wild is our new topic for the rest of this term – we loved sorting animals into different criteria.

What fun we had in the woods this week building a frame shelters using ropes, tapaulin and tent pegs. They needed to be waterproof and secure. The children met the criteria and loved taking shelter from the prevailing winds and rain – created by the teachers!

How pleased do we look with our animal pictures? We carefully copied the other half of a chosen animal’s face taking great care to include features and detail.

What a great way to finish our learning of telling the time! We learnt about Roman numerals then placed them on our very own human clock!

We loved drawing characters from a book using only our imagination from what we had heard from very few details. We used our working memory to see how many of the ten items we could remember after a minute of studying them. It wasn’t as easy as you may think!

We played a game which involved using our hearing to find out just where the noise was coming from. It was not only great fun, but made us understand just how valuable our sense of hearing is! Touch is another sense which was recognised when someone drew a picture on our back. As we couldn’t see what it was and only relied on our sense of touch, it was tricky to replicate what was drawn!

We also learnt how important our sense of taste and smell is. Here we tried a number of different food items – some were met with great happiness; others – as you can see – not so much!
