The U11 hockey girls attended a wonderfully organised and superbly supported tournament played at Oakham school.
We met Oakham first and took a 2-0 win working some of our triangles well with Erin being our pivot. Next up was Maidewell with a superb 5-0 win which saw some superb runs from Tissy and lovely high positioning from Eva. A very equally matched Laxton side prevented us from scoring from a number of positive attacks. The match finished 0-0. We then had two matches to decide where we would finish. We came up against a wonderfully strong Witham and Izzie worked her socks off in goal saving multiple excellent efforts. We held them to a 1-0 loss which was down to tireless defensive work in our own D, Florence made a particular impact. I was extremely proud of their efforts but the game really took it out of the girls physically. We met St Hugh’s in our final pool match and dug deep after a quick sweetie fix and managed to come out on top with a 2-0 win.
This placed us 2nd in our pool. We drew Kimbolton in our 2nd place play off. It was a close game but we were feeling the 70minutes of hockey in our legs. We finished 1-0 down but I couldn’t have been more proud of the girls across the afternoon. It made for an extremely exciting start to the season and I am excited to see what can come next. Well done girls!
