Some of the year 5 children took part in a hardball cricket match against St Hugh’s on Wednesday 25th July. This was a first taste of a hardball match for many of the children involved and they can be proud of their achievements.
St Hugh’s won the toss and elected to bat first. Copthill took 6 wickets which was commendable and St Hugh’s ended with a total of 233 (starting on 100). Copthill came into bat and the pairings started well and there were lots of runs scored.
I could see when the 3rd pair came into bat that the final outcome would go down to the wire, and it did…….
Copthill needed 8 in the last over of the match to win. Unfortunately, they came up short by 3 runs!
A fantastic game of cricket and the Copthill children can be pleased with their performance against a team who also had year 6 players in it.
Well done to you all.
Mr Smith
