With lots of local teams entered into the festival, the girls had time to play 6 mini-matches during an action-packed afternoon!
With our formation set, we agreed to to keep the defensive unit on the pitch throughout so they could work on their roles and particularly their communications. They didn’t disappoint, showing excellent awareness and determination, and only conceding one goal during the whole afternoon! With so much hockey to play, our midfield and forward line agreed to rotate, giving one player a welcome breather, however the frenetic pace of the opening matches even took the Coach by surprise…so much energy!
As the matches were often played back to back, the immediate challenge for the girls was to work on their positioning. This would allow their fast-paced game to flow better, whilst saving some of their precious energy. It was so pleasing to see such quick results on the pitch, especially as the players were often being asked to adapt to different positions and roles.
The end result was a really fun afternoon of hockey for us all, lots of learning, and plenty of success on the pitch! Capped by a tasty tea before the rain came.
Well done Girls!
