Irrespective of age, settling into a new environment can be a nerve-wracking and daunting experience, and this can be especially true if you are three years old! Children react to change in different ways and to differing degrees – there is a wide spectrum of settling patterns. All children are unique and have their own special way of finding their feet in Pre-School.
This week, our staff members have been working closely to get to know the children and strengthen bonds, explore the inside and outside environment and embed routines, all of which help the children feel safe and secure and build a positive anticipation of returning for their next session.
We have been incredibly proud of how the children have embraced their first few days in Pre-School. We have not only had lots of fun playing indoors in our new classroom but we have also spent extended periods of time exploring resources in our outdoor areas. We have discovered the ‘pom pom jar’, enjoyed listening to stories and have even participated in some ‘Mindful Moments’. We are looking forward to welcoming the children back as we continue to settle them into routines in their second week.
