Working at Copthill School
Copthill is a genuine family school with a Board of Directors made up of the sons of the founding family. They all work in school on a daily basis, providing great stability and support; this gives consistency, strength and a firm foundation for the school’s clear vision and aims.
Staff have considerable freedom to do what they do best – teach. There are no more than 20 children in a form and we have a dedicated, skillful team of teaching assistants. We have healthy waiting lists in the Early Years Department and in most year groups in the main school. Pupils are awarded wonderful opportunities to learn and grow within the classroom and outdoors and through music, sports, Forest School and even looking after the farm animals! We have the highest expectations for all our children across all aspects of their education.
We are continually told by parents what a friendly, caring, unique school Copthill is and this has also been commented on in all our ISI inspection reports. We have never rested on our good reputation and, year upon year, the management and staff continue to develop teaching and learning, the curriculum and the opportunities we provide for our children. Our focus is always on the children; however, that does not mean that school shouldn’t be inspirational and enjoyable for staff too! There are many additional employment perks offered to support hard-working staff, including a genuine concern for wellbeing, free lunches and refreshments, a discretionary paid day off during term time, other family friendly policies and an active social calendar. Whilst our days may be slightly longer with the wide range of extra-curricular activities which staff offer, our academic year is only 34 weeks. This all helps to explain why we have a very low turnover of staff, with teachers having been part of the Copthill family for an average of 12 years.
We list further specific details on the skills we are searching for in other documentation, but please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any immediate questions prior to applying for any of our postitions. We would be delighted to welcome you for an informal visit and, indeed, encourage this.
Whatever your skill set – if you are a passionate individual prepared to move with the continual developments in education, can work with others as part of a team and, most importantly, believe that children should be at the heart of everything we do, then we would be delighted to hear from you.
With best wishes
Helen Schofield – Headteacher
