What an incredible week we’ve had here in Reception as we celebrated Valentine’s Day! We explored the heartwarming story behind the holiday and shared the legend of Saint Valentine, the kind priest who secretly married couples during the Roman Empire’s reign, defying Emperor Claudius’ ban on marriages for his soldiers. Saint Valentine’s courageous act led to him being sent to prison, where he met a young girl named Julia. Before his fate was sealed, he sent her the very first Valentine’s card, a sweet gesture that became a lasting tradition.
We also talked about the people who show us love and care, especially our wonderful family members! It was a perfect time to remind our children of how special they are to the people in their lives.
In class, we got creative and made some lovely crafts to mark the occasion. Our children worked hard to create hanging heart decorations, beautiful handprint rose bouquets, and bright sun-catcher hearts. Each creation was a labour of love!
Our Valentine’s week wasn’t complete without a bit of fun and learning. We played in the water with Valentine hearts, sparkles, and petals, and incorporated a fun counting activity. It was a fantastic way to celebrate the joy of the season while also learning and developing new skills.
