Very young children learn best when their play is experiential, physical and engages their senses, and there is no better place to do this than outdoors. In Nursery and Pre School, we place as much value on outdoor play as we do indoor and our forest school sessions are at the heart of our provision. The forest school experience has proven to be hugely beneficial for children’s emotional and developmental needs by providing opportunities to play and learn outside.
This week, the Nursery and Pre School children have begun their first Forest School sessions. The focus has been on learning the routines of the sessions and becoming aware of boundary areas in the setting. In doing so, children are able to feel safe within the environment.
In class, we have continued our ‘Home Sweet Home’ topic and have been thinking about different kinds of homes in different areas and cultures. We have also begun to meet our school rule teddies! The children were very excited to meet Respectful Bear this week and we look forward to meeting the next teddy next week…
