This week, our Reception class transformed into budding historians and adventurers as we embarked on a magical journey to Egypt—no passports required! With the help of our flying carpets, we explored the wonders of this fascinating country, comparing its unique climate and culture to our own in England.
Discovering the Desert and its Wonders
Our journey began in the vast deserts of Egypt, where we learned about the extreme heat and the incredible animals that call it home. The children were amazed to discover how these animals have adapted to survive in such a harsh environment.
The Life-Giving Nile
We then explored the mighty River Nile, one of the longest rivers. The children learned about its importance to life in Egypt, past and present. From providing fertile soil for crops to being a vital water source, the Nile truly captured our imaginations.
Traveling Back in Time to Ancient Egypt
We took a time-traveling leap thousands of years back to ancient Egypt! The children were fascinated to learn about everyday life in those times and were surprised to discover that some of the inventions from ancient Egypt, like makeup, toothbrushes, and hair combs, are still used today.
Creative Fun: Hands-On Learning Activities
Our journey wouldn’t be complete without some hands-on activities:
- Hieroglyphics: The children had a go at creating their own hieroglyphic messages, just like ancient scribes.
- Building Pyramids: Using sugar cubes and LEGO bricks, they constructed their own pyramids, channeling their inner architects.
- Jewellery Making: Inspired by Egyptian craftsmanship, the children made stunning necklaces adorned with colorful jewels—fit for pharaohs!
A Taste of Language and Culture
To deepen our connection with Egypt, we also learned a few words in Arabic, introducing the children to the sounds and rhythm of another language.
We’re so proud of their curiosity and enthusiasm—our little historians have truly brought history to life!
