Buzzing with Excitement – Mr Campbell’s Bee Talk! 🐝🌷🍯

This week, Pre-School enjoyed a bee-rilliant talk from Mr Campbell who, if you didn’t already know, is also Copthill’s professional beekeeper.

Dressed in his big white beekeeping suit (which looked a bit like an astronaut’s outfit) — and with volunteers, big and small, eager to try it on — Mr Campbell wowed us with fascinating facts about the Copthill bees.

We learned, much to our surprise, that boy bees can’t sting (!) and that these tiny creatures work incredibly hard to make the most delicious honey.

The children were amazed to discover that bees do a special “waggle dance” to talk to each other and show the way to flowers and pollen. After a fantastic demo from Mr Campbell, we couldn’t resist joining in — and soon the room was full of waggle-dancing bees, boogying their way to the blooms!

We got to see the smoker, bee brush, and real honeycomb up close. Then we took a moment to be very quiet so we could really listen to the happy hum of our new fuzzy friends.

A huge thank you to Mr Campbell for such a fun and fascinating session. Bees are un-bee-lievably amazing — and a few of us are now hoping Santa might deliver a hive of our own this Christmas (sorry, grown-ups!).
