What an exciting and activity-packed week we’ve had in Reception! Our magical journey on the carpet took us all the way to China as we explored the wonderful celebration of Chinese New Year. We delved into the traditions by learning about the significance of the vibrant red and gold decorations, which symbolize luck and wealth. The children enjoyed making stunning lanterns and colorful paper chain decorations, bringing a festive atmosphere to our classroom. The highlight of the week was learning about dragon dances—such a fun and dynamic way to explore another culture!
In PE, we worked on ball skills and team games. The children had so much fun learning the basics of tag rugby through a game of “Cat and Mouse,” improving their agility and teamwork. We also spent time practicing ball control, building confidence and coordination with every session.
Our Read, Write, Inc. scheme continues to progress wonderfully. This week, we focused on the letters v, y, and w, and the children did an amazing job practicing their letter formation and sounds. Next week, we’ll begin exploring the blend “th”, so stay tuned for more phonics fun!
In maths, we’ve been investigating the composition of 4 and 5, creating fantastic addition sums and singing number songs to reinforce our learning. The children showed such enthusiasm for exploring numbers in different ways.
Our Forest School session was a big hit, as the children created imaginative “environmental shops.” They loved “spending money” in nature and learning about the concept of exchange in a playful way.
Finally, nativity rehearsals have been in full swing! The children are putting so much effort into their roles, and we cannot wait to share their performance with you next week—it’s going to be a treat!
