A Flying Start
‘My children could not of had a more magical start to their educational journey and that is thanks to the wonderful staff and surroundings of the Copthill Nursery’

The Early Years, incorporating the Nursery and Pre-School classes, provide the ideal start to school life in a nurturing, safe and stimulating environment. Through a carefully planned combination of activities supervised by our Early Years team, we aim to encourage independence, social skills and intellectual development in our thoughtfully-designed, welcoming classrooms and play areas.
Activities in the Early Years include literacy, numeracy, arts and crafts, PE, cookery, dance, music and more, all of which ensure the children are developing as young learners.
The Nursery and Pre-School classes make full use of the main school’s facilities too, including music and PE, enhancing their learning opportunities at this early stage.
We keep in touch with parents through an online journal called Tapestry, which enables us to manage our continuous assessments. This records the learning experiences of each child’s education. Photographs and comments are added weekly for parents to view and this creates an interactive two way communication system.
As an experienced and dedicated team, we also ensure that each new child is allocated a Key Worker. Their job is to keep in touch with parents about pupil progress and learning outcomes and development. We make sure that based on our observations we can identify attainment and progress for the Next Steps of every child in our care.
When we are indoors we spend time cooking, enjoying music and movement, circle time games, yoga, PE and arts and crafts. We often use role play areas to act, sit quietly at cd listening stations, or learn through textured based play along with literacy and numeracy activities. We have the extra advantage of enjoying the facilities of the main school, so that Pre-School pupils can have lessons from specialist ballet, music and PE teachers.
Into the Forest we go!
Our daily Forest School sessions enable us to venture into the woods to build dens, scramble over logs, gather leaves and sticks for art projects or to go on bear hunts and to look for Easter eggs! In every adventure there is an opportunity to be brave, independent and excited.
The outdoors offers a magical learning environment and we visit the animal farm regularly to see the chickens, alpacas, sheep and donkeys.
