String Extravaganza!

Copthill Hall was buzzing with excitement as our VIP guest Ms Libby Summers (Stamford Strings) joined the Lower School who were our lovely audience for our debut string perfromers. As the culmination of our Year Two Strings Project both classes took to the stage to perfrorm some of their favourite pieces. 2G began the concert with ‘Let’s All PLay Pizzicato’ showing us their plucking prowess before sharing ‘Yo Bow’ a rhyme with actions to help us use the bows. They then played a jaunty ‘Jig’ with bows before leaving the stage very professionally allowing 2D to take their places. 2D played ‘Raindrops’ with their pizzicato skill and then finished with ‘Circle Madness’ using their bows with style. What a great performance Year 2!

Our chamber musicians then gave us a flavour of what you can do after a year or two of playing. Our Year 5 String trio ‘WAM’ performed a lively ‘Boogie’ followed by the Year 6 quartet ‘Those 4 Strings’ ending the concert with a beautiful rendition of ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’.

Our special performance assembly ended with Libby presenting Copthill with two beautiful new cellos for our budding musicians to use. We cannot wait to use these in our group lessons beginning next term.

Well done to all of our string players for a super assembly. It is wonderful to see the string department flourishing and the impact our string players have on the musical life of the school. Special thanks go to Ms Llewellyn for her inspirational string teaching and we thank Ms Libby Summers for her wonderful support with our string project and generosity in gifting us the cellos.
