Year 4 have taken over the blog this week to update you on their epic Year 4 campover that took place last Friday! We can’t believe it’s been a week since then, the children had a brilliant time and were superbly behaved – well done to each and every one of them. Now, over to them!
The Hike
On Friday 20th June, we did a fun hike from Burghley House to school, which was 5km! We were put into tribes, tribe A, B, C, D and we had to walk in those groups! We also got to walk the dogs, Coda and Harley along the way! We excitedly set off in the Burghley car park and said goodbye to our parents.
Further along the hike, we crossed a gate that Burghley’s owner let us have the key to. We tried to open the gate but they gave us the wrong key! So we walked a different way (through the woods) and it took us way longer than we expected!
Along the way, we stopped for a snack and a drink at the river. Then we set out of Burghley and we had tougher challenges to face, like crossing the road, crossing a train track, and we went down steep hills – it was so exciting! In the end, we walked about 7km! It felt like we were walking all day! Finally, we got back to school, and had some lunch with our teams but we all enjoyed it!

In the woods!
After the walk, we went to woods where it was cool and shaded. In the woods, we made bunting for each tribe, which you could decorate with sharpies of all colours. Some people drew tents on them. Then, we painted 4 large flags that we decorated with different pictures. The flags were attached to long poles and were put in front of each tribe’s tent area, with their bunting hanging all around. We also made rafts out of sticks and string in any shape we wanted and tested them on the river to see if they could float.
CAMPOVER GAMES
After the walk, we all played games that included rope climbing and Minefield. Minefield involved lots of water and if we were the first to cross the minefield we were given our own water guns to spray others with if they stepped on the wrong tile. When we did climbing, we had to wear helmets, then we crossed very thin ropes which some people found hard and fell off but did not hurt themselves. You had to be quite tall to complete it.

Down At The River
On the year 4 campover, we had lots of fun down at the river. Earlier that day, we made rafts and were able to take them down to the river with us. Everybody had a paddle and some boys even went fully in! There was lots of splashing and screaming, the year 4 girls had lots of fun in a circle splashing each other! When everyone had to get out, we were all so sad but very cold as well. We wrapped a towel around us and walked back to the tent and got into our pyjamas.
Dinner
When we got called over for dinner we all had to stand in a line and we were given beef pasta or tomato pasta with salad and chopped baguettes. At the end, we were given chocolate shortbread with pink and white sprinkles, and we sat on the grass or the fort.
Night Time!
After dinner, we jumped into bed and everybody was chatting in the tents and reading books. Then Mr Teesdale told us to settle down and go to sleep while the teachers were eating pizza. The outside of the tents were very wet and some people slept outside and got wet. The cockerel woke some people up but some people got woken up by other people talking at 5am which was very, very naughty. It was time to wake up at 6:30am when breakfast was ready.
