Some of the boys in year 5 & 6 travelled to Witham Hall school on Wednesday 1st May to play some hardball and softball cricket.
The softball team were able to pull off a superb victory winning by one run on the last ball! They played some excellent shots during the match and there were lots of boundaries made. The bowling was precise and the boys must take credit for a very good performance.
The hardball B team bowled well against a strong Witham outfit, but the batting let them down a little, losing more wickets that Witham and ultimately costing them the match, losing by 35 runs. The boys should be pleased with their bowling and must now work hard on their batting technique in the nets.
The A hardball team won the toss and elected to bowl first. They bowled superbly well taking 7 wickets. Witham had some strong batters however and amassed a score of 297 (starting on 200). Copthill started weak in batting losing a wicket each over for the first 5 overs, which proved costly! A couple of pairs steadied the ship but when the final pair came in to bat, it was just too much to make up and whilst scoring well, they lost the game by 40 runs. They worked well as a team, but must concentrate working hard on their batting defensively as well as attacking shots.
Well done to all the boys who took part.
