This week at forest school, a Pre-Schooler was very excited to tell her friends that she has been learning about volcanoes and earthquakes at home. Mr Campbell explained that we could use the Kelly Kettle whilst at Forest School to boil the water in it, just like a volcano. The children were very intrigued by this and listened very carefully before going off into the woods to find some small pieces of wood to place in the bottom of the Kelly Kettle. The children sat carefully around the fire square and watched as the kettle was filled with water. They then took turns to add a stick to the Kelly Kettle to help to keep it alight. Once the sticks were added as fuel for the fire, they watched as flames came out of the top, just like a volcano erupting. After a short while the water was warm enough to add to our hot chocolate. After a yummy snack, we explored the woods and were amazed at some first signs of spring as we spotted all of the beautiful daffodils which were growing in the woods. The children investigated their different coloured petals and realised that some had a lovely smell to them. The children continued to play imaginatively in the woods, exploring the little wooden hut which they made into Grandma’s house and took it in turns to be Little Red Riding Hood.
