Some of the boys from year 5&6 travelled to the Lee Valley National Hockey & Tennis centre in London to take part in the annual ISA national hockey tournament.
This is a very prestigious tournament which some outstanding schools attend. Therefore, the boys who made the squad to represent Copthill at this tournament should be very proud of their achievements!
The group matches were played during the morning and we came up against Danesfield Manor beating them 3-0 in a very dominant performance. We then played Ipswich High School and drew 0-0 after another dominant performance and should have won. We then came up against Heywood Prep School A Team who were the eventual winners of the whole ISA tournament! We again were dominant in this game and should have won. The final score was 0-0.
We ended up finishing 2nd in our group behind Heywood who beat Ipswich who we only drew against. Therefore, we were placed in the plate competition. We unfortunately lost the knockout game against Weston Green 1-0 but finished the tournament beating the other losing knockout school, Claremont on penalty shuffles. We finished 7th out of 25 schools which is very good and on another day, we may have won the competition had we snuck in a couple more goals during the morning group matches.
Well done to all the boys who took part, both Mr Nick Teesdale and myself were hugely proud of their efforts and behaviour on the day.
Well done boys!
Mr Smith
