What an INCREDIBLE afternoon of immersive history for year 6 as they were visited by Mr Howard Tilney (An ex-Copthillian parent) who brought his extensive knowledge of WW1 and a range of real 1914 artifacts, including shells, grenades and a typical ‘Tommy’ outfit. The children were able to see this uniform in action and analyse the different kit and weapons a typical WW1 soldier would have had to carry in the trenches. Using his amazing model, they were able to see a cross section of trench lines and discuss its layout. They also learnt about the evolution of gas marks and even experienced ‘going over the top’ with different pupils taking on different officer ranks and commanding their troups. Thank you, Mr Tilney; we are privileged to have such a wonderful workshop.
