Congratulations to all the Year 5 girls who took part in their first Hockey Festival of the term on Wednesday. Forming two enthusiastic teams, the girls were scheduled to compete against many familiar schools, and also some from further afield.
There is quite a step up from last year, and with the excitement of the first match upon them it took a little while for positions to settle and team-focus to deliver the hockey that we had seen on the training pitch so far this term. Eventually it all started to come together; the tenacious tackling from Lexi and a wonderful debut display in goal from Emilia gave us a solid platform, from where the midfield engine room inspired by Bailey, advanced the ball to our forwards, lead by Sophia, who showed plenty of determination in her running and finishing. With a squad of 10 we continually rolled our subs so everyone played their part in a fantastic team performance which grew through the afternoon, and we finished with a very creditable 1L 2D 1W result. Very well done girls!
Isabella made her debut in goal, and showed great effort and perseverance, despite slight wardrobe malfunctions! In training we have been working on positioning and finding space, and the girls worked really hard during the afternoon matches to put those skills into practice. Libby scored two well worked team goals, and we finished the afternoon with plenty of positives, both on and off the pitch. Well done girls for your excellent excellent playing !
